Chandler recently flexed its mentoring muscles at Stillwater Area High School’s first annual SPEED STEM event. This special function was held during the students’ Project Lead the Way (PLTW) class. The PLTW is the nation’s leading provider of science, technology, engineering, and math programs–whose mission is to develop students’ skills related to STEM for success in the global economy.
The morning activity was setup in a speed-dating fashion where groups of students had an opportunity to learn first-hand about STEM careers directly from professionals working in those related fields. Representing Chandler was our Production Manager, Brent Denoma, and Design Manager, James Voigt, who highlighted critical areas of our business relating to STEM.
As Brent and James rotated among the student tables, they provided insight about their current roles and day-to-day operations. They answered questions like, “What type of degree do you have; what do you like most about your job; and; reasons to begin a career in a STEM field.” They shared examples on how Chandler incorporates technology into our manufacturing methods, utilizes engineering processes in our design concepts, and outlined why reviewing analytics is critical to each company department.
