Best Buy Tech Zone // Designed & Fabricated by Chandler

Chandler’s Logistic Skills Put to the Test

Developing conceptual design and 3D renderings for the Best Buy Tech Zone was just the tip of the iceberg. The real kicker: managing multiple vendors throughout the U.S., transporting a 40-foot steel container packed tight with smart devices, and ensuring its strategic placement during the NFL playoff games. Oh, did we mention, guaranteed arrival to one of the country’s top tourist destinations the week prior to the Big Game?

And, that’s exactly what we did.

It wasn’t endless hours of swift ninja training, nor was it any type of séance or sacrificing of livestock that geared our team up for success. It was the combination of skilled, resourceful and driven project managers, fabricators, designers and partners who relentlessly made this project a success.

In late August of 2017, Best Buy outlined objectives for the Tech Zone project: a 40-foot-long steel shipping container featuring the latest in technology and gaming. After a series of design concepts and renderings produced in-house, the fabrication of the container exterior was underway in September, with refinements finalized in October.

By the turn of the year, our feet were held to the fire with a variety of project elements unfolding all at once. Priority number one: installation of electronics. Next up: professional video shoot with former NFL star, Ben Leber. Soon after, our team hit the road, transporting the massive Tech Zone to select playoff game cities, which included: Jacksonville, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.

Leading up to the Big Game, the Tech Zone endured a highly coordinated, six-hour maneuver over marble tile through Mall of America’s Nickelodeon Universe to its Rotunda base station. After setup, patrons enjoyed the Tech Zone’s Catch the Game and Play the Game vignettes.

Best Buy Tech Home // Designed & Fabricated By Chandler

Designed for a Connected Experience

Best Buy was looking to create a real home experience where customers could see smart products in use and gain a greater understanding of how connected devices work in a home.

Chandler’s Creative Director, Jeremiah Albrecht,
designed the Best Buy Tech Home with an open air design. This design concept allowed visitors to catch glimpses of the home from anywhere outside the structure. The design offered a guided path through the home, with each room presenting an informative story related to everyday needs. The Tech Home design is an open and inviting space for customers to play and learn about smart products available at any Best Buy.

Hands-On Environment For Smart Devices

Best Buy Tech Home offered a hands-on display of all things smart home—seamlessly connecting devices and appliances within a kitchen, living room, bedroom, office space and entryway setting. It includes top options for Wi-Fi, security, comfort and organization, including electronics from Samsung SmartThings, NETGEAR, Canon, Philips Hue, and Qualcomm Technologies.

The Best Buy Tech Home was on display at Minnesota’s Mall of America from Aug. 22 – Sept. 17, 2016. Following its debut in Minnesota, Chandler dismantled the display and reassembled the Tech Home in Atlanta’s North Point Mall; it was open through Oct. 14, 2016.
